This month I did some service by going to a giant warehouse that collects and stores canned food to give out for free to those that cannot afford food. I sorted food for 5 hours! It was actually a lot of fun for me. They had labeled boxes to sort the food. Some of the labels were: corn, vegetables, macaroni and cheese, fruit, tuna, meat sauce, etc. Note that some of the labels were specific. This is because they get so much of that one kind of food. Tuna is definitely a very popular donation and so is corn. I liked to sort the food as fast as I could, it kinda seemed like a game. I met a very young couple that was volunteering too. They seemed to have just gotten out of college. The guy only had one arm, so I was very impressed by how he was able to sort food so well. Also, his girlfriend was an English major. We had a great conversation about books I have been reading in my English class. Also, she did the IB program in Florida, so we compared our experiences. Overall, it was a great time because I met knew people and got to help sort food that will go to a good cause. I definitely want to go back.
